DEATHPOOL 3 (2024) Release Date and All About

RELEASE DATE

Shawn Levy

Deadpool 3 has finally wrapped filming ahead of its release in cinemas this summer, although we have to wait a little bit longer for the long-awaited threequel.         Download

In November 2023, Marvel confirmed that Deadpool 3 will now be arriving in July 2024 rather than May 2024. It's now in the unusual position of being the only MCU movie to be released this year.

However, there's so much to look forward to that it would probably be the biggest Marvel release next year, even if there were other movies coming out.

If the prospect of Deadpool in the MCU wasn't exciting enough, we also know that the third movie will bring back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Naturally, Reynolds and Jackman have been having fun taunting each other over the threequel's official title.

There are plenty of other returning cast members too, so to mark filming wrapping, here's everything you need to know about Deadpool 3 .

Deadpool 3 release date: When will Deadpool 3 be released?

As mentioned above, Deadpool 3 will now arrive in cinemas on July 26, 2024, a slight delay from its original May 3, 2024 release.

Originally, Deadpool 3 was scheduled to hit cinemas on September 6, 2024, before it was pushed back to November 8, 2024, and suddenly moved forward again six months ahead, before being delayed to its current date.

Hopefully that date won't change now that filming has wrapped as of January 24, 2024. Ryan Reynolds marked the occasion by sharing a crotch shot, naturally, while Hugh Jackman shared a video of him getting a haircut.

The movie initially filmed from May to July 2023, before being shut down by the writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood.

It then resumed in late November where the production was hit by set leaks, but you won't be seeing any of those leaks here as we want to keep the surprise.

Deadpool 3 cast: Who's going to be in Deadpool 3?

Well, of course, Ryan Reynolds was always going to be back as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and he's got some major company.

As mentioned above, Hugh Jackman will be making his MCU debut as Wolverine. We still don't know exactly how it'll work canon-wise, but we assume there's going to be some multiversal shenanigans going on.

Back in December 2022, Jackman explained: "All because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines now, we can go back because it's 'science'. And so I don't have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too."

Reynolds has technically already made his MCU debut in an advert with Thor: Ragnarok character Korg, as well as getting a name drop in the Avengers Campus ride Avengers Assemble: Flight Force.

There's a pretty exciting new addition to the overall Marvel universe as well, as Emma Corrin has been confirmed to appear in the movie as the lead villain. We don't yet know who they'll be playing, but we do know they needed a "Marvel debrief" before filming.

Succession star Matthew Macfadyen will also be making his MCU debut in Deadpool 3. But sadly, we don't yet know who he'll be playing yet.

Deadpool 2 introduced us to a range of new heroes in the X-Force team — and although some didn't survive long enough, we could see the likes of Cable (Josh Brolin). We won't be seeing Domino (Zazie Beetz), though: the actress confirmed she will not be returning for the third film.

We now know that Stefan Kapičić is back as Colossus, although we don't yet know about his fellow X-Force teammates Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Russell (Julian Dennison) and Peter (Rob Delaney).

Fans shouldn't hold out much hope to see the likes of Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård) return for Deadpool 3 – but superheroes always cheat death in the comics, so never say never.

One character who already cheated death (as long as Deadpool 2's post-credits sequence is canon) in the franchise is Vanessa, Deadpool's girlfriend. Morena Baccarin was confirmed in April 2023 to be returning as Vanessa.

Baccarin previously defended Vanessa's lack of screen time in the sequel after fans accused the movie of 'fridging' her.

"I can understand that people felt that way and I certainly was disappointed that I didn't have more to do, because I just loved the part so much," she said.

"But in watching the film and reading the script, it felt like such an emotionally pivotal role in the film and the entire arc of his character in the film is set into motion because of what happens to my character."

We were already pretty sure Blind Al would be returning thanks to a tweet between Reynolds and Leslie Uggams, who plays the roommate, and it was officially confirmed in March 2023 that Uggams would be back.

The same announcement revealed that Karan Soni is also back as Dopinder for his third Deadpool outing.

And if another MCU crossover is on your wishlist with Charlie Cox dropping by as Daredevil, then stop hoping: Cox ruled out a Deadpool 3 appearance in December 2023. But then again, he would say that, wouldn't he?

We are (probably) getting the return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra though. It was reported in July 2023, but Garner stopped short of confirming it when asked about her comeback in November 2023.

Patrick Stewart has also been teasing a return as Charles Xavier saying that "it has come up", but didn't confirm anything.

One person who might be appearing is Taylor Swift, who has been heavily rumoured to be playing Dazzler. Unsurprisingly, Levy is remaining tight-lipped about the reports.

"I'm going across the board 'no comment' because that's a double whammy," he noted. "That's Taylor-related. And it's MCU-related. I'm no dummy. You're going to have to wait and see."

Reynolds added in late November 2023: "Every single one of these secrets and spoilers will be revealed on July 26."

Deadpool 3 plot: What will Deadpool 3 be about?

Reynolds has teased that the threequel is "looking to go in a completely different direction", adding: "Often, they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late."

Though Deadpool's original director said the threequel didn't need an R rating to be great, the movie will be rated R, so don't worry about that. Feige confirmed in February 2021 that Deadpool has "established" itself as an R-rated franchise.

After Reese and Wernick came on board the threequel, they promised that the movie wouldn't be "Disney-fied".

"They are gonna let Deadpool be Deadpool, you know? It's not like any particular joke may be the one that they say: 'You know, that's too far'. That could happen, but to this point, it's been nothing but support," assured Reese.

It's unclear how the movie's MCU connection will play a part in the continuity of the series from the first two movies or if it'll effectively be a soft reboot. Does this mean that time travel will play a more prominent role in Deadpool 3?

The last time we saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead, she was fixing Cable's time machine so Deadpool could right the wrongs of the past, including a regrettable yet hilarious career choice made by Ryan Reynolds.

A plot tease from Reese has us thinking that the third movie will make Deadpool arriving in the MCU part of its story, directly addressing that he's now in a totally different universe than before rather than retconning his MCU status.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for fish-out-of-water. Deadpool is a lunatic at the centre of a movie. To drop a lunatic into a very sane world, it's straight butter. It's going to be really fun," noted Reese.

Before Jackman's involvement was confirmed, Reynolds had tweeted in January 2021 that the third movie was going to be a Rashomon-style road trip with Deadpool and Wolverine before the Disney-Fox merger.

Is this now going to be the case? Rashomon revolved around several people revealing different perspectives on how a samurai was murdered in a forest. Could Wolverine be the dead samurai in this scenario?

Feige has also set a pretty high bar for the movie, comparing it to fellow MCU threequels. "How do we elevate it in the way we've been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok?" he said. "It's very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show."

All we really know about the third movie is that, unsurprisingly, Deadpool and Wolverine "hate each other".

"I'm just talking from my perspective, [Logan's] frustrated by him – [he] wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head," Jackman noted. "Unfortunately, he can't be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I'm probably going to punch him in the head a lot."

Could we see other X-Men stars in the movie, too? The Marvels post-credit scene saw Monica Rambeau wake up in a reality that includes Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Binary, aka Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch).

It's possible that this universe is where Deadpool 3 takes place, but that's just speculation for us for now.

Deadpool 3 trailer: When will the Deadpool 3 trailer arrive?

We don't have anything to show you yet, unfortunately, but with filming wrapped up, let's hope we see something from Deadpool 3 sooner rather than later.

Deadpool 3 will be released in cinemas on July 26. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are available to watch now on Disney+.

Birthday: Oct 23, 1976

Birthplace: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Versatile Canadian-American actor Ryan Reynolds became known for playing a wide variety of roles, from snarky wiseguys in films like "Van Wilder" and "Waiting " to demanding action roles in the comic book movies "Green Lantern" (2011) and "Deadpool" (2016). Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Reynolds' first professional TV acting job came when he was 15. He was cast on the Canadian teen drama series "Hillside" (YTV/Nickelodeon, 1991-93), which was called "Fifteen" in America, and appeared on 13 episodes of the series. From there Reynolds honed his acting chops by working regularly with TV guest spots, as well as parts in made-for-TV movies like "A Secret Between Friends: A Moment of Truth" (NBC, 1996). Then in 1998 Reynolds nabbed his first big role when he was cast on the sitcom "Two Guys and a Girl" (ABC, 1998-2001). The series ran for four seasons on ABC, and despite a loyal following of fans, was cancelled in 2001 due to low ratings. Despite the cancellation of "Two Guys and a Girl," Reynolds continued landing acting work. He played the title character in the 2002 college comedy "Van Wilder," a foul-mouthed waiter in the 2005 restaurant comedy "Waiting " (2005), and also starred in the 2005 remake of the classic horror film, "The Amityville Horror" (2005). Ever the versatile actor, by the late 2000s Reynolds was earning praise for appearing in a wide variety of film genres, including romantic comedies (2009's "The Proposal"), comic book movies ("The Green Lantern"), and serious dramas (2015's " Woman in Gold"). Having already established himself as an A-lister with the chops to play just about any part, Reynolds' career hit an even higher point in 2016 when he played the wisecracking title character "Deadpool" (2016). "Deadpool" was a huge success at the box office, with Reynolds earning heaps of critical praise for his one-of-a-kind performance. The film was such a success that Reynolds reprised the character in "Deadpool 2," which came out in 2018. 2018 was also a milestone year for Reynolds because it was the year he became an American citizen. In 2019, with his career nearly 30 years old, Reynolds continued surprising audiences with his wide assortment of roles. In addition to appearing in Taylor Swift's music video for "You Need to Calm Down," he also nabbed an uncredited role in the Dwayne Johnson action movie "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw" (2019).

A stage and screen actor of remarkable versatility, Australia-born Hugh Jackman had the unusual honor of being named one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive," while also maintaining fandom among legions of comic book enthusiasts for portraying famed X-Men character Wolverine. After receiving his start in film and on television in his native Australia, Jackman was catapulted to stardom as the edgy, violence-prone Wolverine in the blockbuster hit "X-Men" (2000), a role he reprised over the course of his career in sequels like "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (2009) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014) before closing the books on his performance in the R-rated finale "Logan" (2017). In between, he earned critical acclaim for his performance in the romantic comedy "Kate & Leopold" (2001), played a computer-hacking criminal in the thriller "Swordfish" (2001) and cut down vampires as "Van Helsing" (2004). After starring in Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige" (2006) and Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain" (2006), Jackman joined fellow Aussies Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrmann for the romantic epic "Australia" (2008). A veteran of the musical stage, Jackman was a natural fit to serve as host of the Tony Awards and Academy Awards, while also starring in the long-awaited adaptation of "Les Misérables" (2012) and appearing as Blackbeard in the Peter Pan reimagining "Pan" (2015) and P.T. Barnum in the musical drama "The Greatest Showman" (2017). Because of his rugged charm and diversity of talent, Jackman capably alternated between great displays of theatricality and calculated reserve while becoming one of Hollywood's favored leading men.

Jennifer Garner

Highest Rated:  96% Catch Me if You Can (2002)

Lowest Rated:  8% Mother's Day (2016)

Birthday: Apr 17, 1972

Birthplace: Houston, Texas, USA

Initially seen as the squeaky-clean girl-next-door, actress Jennifer Garner became a fan favorite after channeling an inner-strength she never suspected she possessed. Garners' early work consisted of several TV-movies, numerous series guest spots, a few minor turns in feature films like "Washington Square" (1997) and a recurring role on the hit drama, "Felicity" (The WB, 1998-2002). Her natural appeal began attracting attention with supporting roles opposite Ashton Kutcher in the slacker comedy, "Dude, Where's My Car?" (2000) and the big-budget WWII epic, "Pearl Harbor" (2001), starring future husband Ben Affleck. But it was her breakthrough role as Sydney Bristow, the tough-as-nails super spy on the action adventure series "Alias" (ABC, 2002-06) that turned the previously waifish actress into a leading lady to be reckoned with. Attempting to parlay the success of "Alias" into film work as a female action hero, she played Affleck's femme fatale, Elektra, in the superhero adventure, "Daredevil" (2003). The gambit failed to pay off, however, as audiences found her far more endearing in softer romantic comedies like "13 Going on 30" (2004). Following her marriage to Affleck, Garner began appearing more often as an ensemble player, earning high marks with both relatable, comedic turns and darker character explorations in such varied films as "Juno" (2007), "Dallas Buyers Club" (2013), and family films including "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" (2014) and "Nine Lives" (2016) before returning to TV with the cable comedy "Camping" (HBO 2018- ). The versatile Garner became one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses even at times when the state of her personal life threatened to overshadow her screen work.

Birthday: Jun 2, 1979

Like many performers of international heritage, Italian-Brazilian actress Morena Baccarin found herself frequently cast as exotic figures rather than real people; she was an interstellar courtesan on Joss Whedon's "Serenity" (Fox, 2002) and alluring but deadly aliens on "Stargate SG-1" (Showtime/SyFy, 2001-07) and "V" (ABC, 2009-2011). These and other similar roles gave Baccarin a fan base built primarily around her physical appeal, but after nearly a decade of hard work in episodic television, the actress landed her breakout role as a POW's wife on "Homeland" (Showtime, 2011- ). The critically acclaimed drama offered a stellar display of Baccarin's acting ability in her difficult role as a woman who, after having grieved and moved on following the death of her soldier husband, was faced with rebuilding her life again after his rescue from an Al Qaeda prison. The critical acclaim that followed her sympathetic turn was ample proof that Morena Baccarin's best work was yet to be seen.
